I Love a Good Rumor

Jeez, do I ever love a rumor. Who doesn’t, right? I absolutely adore a good urban legend. Nothing gets the mind burning like unfounded knowledge.
I’ve been cruising through Snopes and I found this great article. It finally answered the question- why is it when I go to a BBQ joint there’s bound to be a picture of a really happy pig? Does he know where he is? Oh, he knows. He’s just explaining to people who can’t read- I’m what ya eatin! And I’m pleased as a me in shit about it!
So, when an American Baby-Food company sent over tons of jars of their baby food to areas in Africa with really low literacy rates, what happened? Well, the folks their thought they were dealing with a company trying to sell them ground up baby. Duh.
Africa must think America is insane.
Oh, yes. I did read the whole article. And I know the writer tries to debunk the story. I just disagree with the reasoning on why this shouldn’t and probably did not happen. Lack of specifics doesn’t not make a story wrong. It’s just bad story telling. I don’t see it as racially stereotyping, the writer seems to make more stereotypes about ME- I’m callous and am laughing at these primitive rubes. Actually, I just see them as reasoning individuals and their flub makes me laugh, b/c I can see myself making an equally ignorant move. There’s no facts to back up the debunk- just supposition. Besides, I like a rumor. I like it’s amorphous quality and I heard Snopes is run by the government.
