Good Monday!
It’s a good day here in Brooklyn. Beautiful outside. I went to yoga this morning and tried to do a hand stand…not too successfully. I’m a big fan of yoga, or anything else that encourages me to role around, stand on my head or act like a little kid. I like the yoga pose where you lay on your back and hold your toes and basically wobble around like a fat baby. No idea what that’s called.
That’s not really what has me going today. There are quite a few things running through my head and I feel like sharing them in link form with the internet or at least the handful of folks reading this blog. No downers. It’s Monday.
First, NYtimes magazine profiled my new hero, Will Allen. He is the living embodiment of all those tall tales I heard as a kid. Big like Paul Bunyan? Check. Spreadin goodness like Johnny Appleseed? Check. Pecos Bill? Sure, I’d bet he could wrangle a tornado and he probably rides a cougar to work. Here’s his organization- Growing Power.
Second, I was reading about THE 99. I haven’t heard about this comic book, but apparently it’s huge. There’s a theme park and there’s going to be an animated series. All I know I learned from the bbc. What struck me the most is that all the superheroes are based on different aspects of Allah and Islam, but they made it a point that none of the superheroes pray or read the Koran. The author said,”…that only when Jewish kids think that THE 99 characters are Jewish, and Christian kids think they’re Christian, and Muslim kids think they’re Muslim, and Hindu kids think they’re Hindu, that I will consider my vision as having been fully executed.”
Agog.
What else has me excited?
Seed Saver Exchange. My garden is doing pretty well, but next season my garden is going to rock heirloom and rare varieties of tomatoes and cucumbers.
And then, I got introduced to Kid Cudi this weekend. Which I can’t embed so check it out at youtube.
Enjoy the Monday! Oh, Jenn made whoopie pie ice-cream sandwiches. I don’t have a link to that. Sorry. I can’t link to my freezer. Or my stomach.
